UPSC Recruitment 2024 85 Geo-Scientist Posts : The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released a notification inviting online applications for the UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination, 2025. This examination is being conducted to fill 85 Geo-Scientist posts across various departments. Eligibility Criteria:

Nationality:

  • The candidate must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India.
  • Persons of Indian origin who have migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam can also apply.

Educational Qualification:

  • Geologist Group A: Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in Geological Science, Geology, Applied Geology, Geo-Exploration, or related fields from a recognized university.
  • Geophysicist Group A: Candidates should possess an M.Sc. in Physics, Applied Physics, Geophysics, Marine Geophysics, or relevant disciplines.
  • Chemist Group A: A Master’s degree in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry is required.
  • Scientist B (Hydrogeology): A Master’s degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Hydrogeology, or equivalent.

Age Limit:

  • Minimum Age: 21 years
  • Maximum Age: 32 years as of 1st January 2025.
  • Applicants must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years [1st January, 2025] i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 02.01.1993 and not later than 01.01.2004.
  • There is an age relaxation for reserved categories as per the government norms:
    • SC/ST: 5 years
    • OBC: 3 years
    • PwD: 10 years

Physical Standards: Candidates must be physically and mentally fit as per the standards set by UPSC.

Salary: The salary offered to UPSC Geo-Scientists falls under the Pay Matrix Level 10 (Rs. 56,100 – Rs. 1,77,500) of the 7th Pay Commission. Along with the basic pay, candidates are entitled to various allowances like House Rent Allowance (HRA), Dearness Allowance (DA), and other benefits provided to central government employees.

Selection Process: The selection process for UPSC Geo-Scientist 2024 consists of three stages:

Preliminary Examination (Objective Type): The Preliminary exam is conducted to shortlist candidates for the Main Examination. It is divided into two papers:

Paper I: General Studies

Paper II: Subject-Specific (Geology/Geophysics/Chemistry/Other relevant subjects)
This is an objective-type exam, and only those who qualify in this will be eligible to appear for the Main Exam.

Main Examination (Descriptive Type): The Main exam consists of three papers, and candidates are required to write descriptive answers based on their specialization.

Each paper will focus on the respective subject: Geology, Geophysics, or Chemistry.

Marks from this stage will be considered in the final merit list.

Personality Test (Interview): Candidates who clear the Main Examination will be called for a personality test/interview, which will assess the candidate’s knowledge, attitude, and suitability for the job. The interview carries 200 marks and plays a significant role in the final selection process.
