For Geologist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India – Master’s degree in Geological Science or Geology or Applied Geology or Geo- Exploration or Mineral Exploration or Engineering Geology or Marine Geology or Earth Science and Resource Management or Oceanography and Coastal Areas Studies or Petroleum Geosciences or Geochemistry from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or an educational institution established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed university under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 (3 of 1956) i.e. recognized University.
For Geophysicist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India and Scientist ‘B’ (Geophysics) Group ‘A’ in C.G.W.B. – M.Sc. in Physics or Applied Physics or M.Sc. (Geophysics) or Integrated M.Sc. (Exploration Geophysics) or M.Sc (Applied Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Marine Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Tech.) (Applied Geophysics) from a University incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature in India or other educational institutes established by an Act of the Parliament or declared to be deemed universities under the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
For Chemist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India and Scientist ‘B’ (Chemical) under C.G.W.B. – M. Sc. in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry from a University incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature or other educational Institutes established by an Act of the Parliament or declared to be deemed Universities under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 i.e. recognized University.
For Scientist ‘B’ (Hydrogeology) Group ‘A’ in C.G.W.B.- Master’s degree in Geology or applied Geology or Marine Geology or Hydrogeology from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational Institutes established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
Age Limit:
(a) For Geologist, Geophysicist and Chemist (Group ‘A’) in the Geological Survey of India, an attached office of Ministry of Mines, Government of India: A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on the first day of the month of January of the year in which the Examination is to be held (i.e. as on 1st January, 2024] i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1992 and not later than 1st January 2003.
(b) For Scientist ‘B’(Hydrogeology) Group ‘A’, Scientist ‘B’(Chemical) Group ‘A’ and Scientist ‘B’(Geophysics) Group ‘A’ in Central Ground water Board, Ministry of Water Resources : – Must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained at the age of 32 years on 1st January, 2024 i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2n d January 1992 and not later than 1s January 2003.
The Upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST; 3 years for OBC, 10 Years for Persons with Disabilities (15 years for SC/ST PWD’s & 13 years for OBC PWD’s) and for Ex-S as per Govt. of India rules. Candidates Relaxation in Upper Age limit will be provided as per Govt. Rules.
Salary : Selected candidates will be offered a competitive salary and pay scale as per the rules of the Government of India. The details of the salary structure will be provided in the official notification.
Selection Process : The selection process for the UPSC Geo-Scientist Recruitment 2023 comprises three stages:
Stage-I : Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type Papers)
Stage-II : Combined Geo-Scientist (Main) Examination (Conventional Type Papers)
Stage-III : Personality Test/Interview
Preliminary Examination: This is an objective-type examination consisting of two papers – Paper-I (General Studies) and Paper-II (Geology/Geophysics/Chemistry/Hydrogeology). Candidates who qualify for the Preliminary Examination will be eligible to appear for the Main Examination.
Main Examination: The Main Examination consists of two parts – Part I and Part II. Part I is the written examination, while Part II is the interview/personality test.
Personality Test/Interview: Candidates who clear the Main Examination will be called for a personality test/interview to assess their suitability for the posts.

Applicants who opt for “Pay by Cash” mode should print the system generated Pay-in-slip during Part II registration and deposit the fee at the counter of SBI Branch on the next working day only. “Pay by Cash” mode will be deactivated at 11:59 p.m. of 09.10.2023 i.e. one day before the closing date of submission of application; however applicants who have generated their Pay-in- Slip before it is deactivated may pay at the counter of SBI Branch during banking hours on the closing date.
