UPSC Engineering Services Examination 2025 457 Posts : The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the recruitment for 457 Engineering Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2025 posts across various engineering disciplines. Eligibility Criteria for UPSC ESE 2025

Nationality: The candidate must be a citizen of India, or A subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or East African countries such as Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Age Limit: A candidate for this examination must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on the 1st January, 2025 i.e., he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1995 and not later than 1 st January, 2004.

Relaxation of Upper age limit:

For SC/ ST Candidates: 5 years
For OBC Candidates: 3 years
For PwBD (Gen/ EWS) Candidates: 10 years
For PwBD (SC/ ST) Candidates: 15 years
For PwBD (OBC) Candidates: 13 years
For Ex-Servicemen Candidates: As per Govt. Policy

Educational Qualification: Candidates must have a degree in Engineering from a recognized university or equivalent. Final year engineering students can also apply provided they submit proof of passing the degree exam before the Engineering Services (Main) Exam 2025.

(a) Bachelor Degree in Engineering or

(b) Passed Sections A & B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India); or

(c) Bachelor Degree/diploma in Engineering from such foreign University/Institution/, or

(d) Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers (India); or

(e) Associate Membership Examination Parts II & III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or

(f) Graduate Membership Examination of the Institutions of Electronics & Radio Engineers, London held after November, 1959

Provided that a candidate for the post of Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engg Posts) and Indian Radio Regulatory Service Group ‘A’ may possess any of the above qualifications or the qualification mentioned below namely:-

 For Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engg Posts) – M.Sc. degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication Electronics, Radio Engineering or Radio Physics as a special subject.

For Indian Radio Regulatory Service Group ‘A’- M.Sc. degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication Electronics, Radio Engineering or Radio Physics as a subject or Master’s Degree in Science with Physics and Radio Communication or Telecommunication or Electronics as a special subject.

Salary Structure: The selected candidates will be placed in prestigious engineering services of various departments under the Government of India, such as Indian Railway Service, Central Water Engineering, Central Engineering Service, Military Engineering Service, etc. The salary details are as follows:

Pay Scale: The initial pay band for most engineering services posts is Level 10 (Rs. 56,100 – Rs. 1,77,500) with allowances as applicable under government rules. Other benefits include housing, medical facilities, pension schemes, and various allowances depending on the department.

Selection Process :  The selection process consists of three stages:

Preliminary Examination (Objective Type): Two papers will be conducted:

Paper-I (General Studies and Engineering Aptitude): 200 marks

Paper-II (Engineering Discipline): 300 marks

The total marks for the prelims are 500, and the exam will be conducted in offline mode.

Duration: Paper-I: 2 hours, Paper-II: 3 hours

Main Examination (Conventional Type): The Main examination will consist of two conventional papers in the specific engineering discipline, each carrying 300 marks. The total marks for the Mains exam are 600 marks.

Personality Test (Interview): Candidates qualifying for the Mains will be called for an interview/personality test.
The interview will carry 200 marks. Final selection will be based on the combined marks of the Preliminary, Main, and Personality tests.

  • Female/SC/ST/PwBD candidates: Exempted from the fee.
