Eligibility Criteria : Candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria to apply for the UPSC Engineering Services Examination 2025:

Nationality: Indian citizens are eligible. Citizens of Nepal, Bhutan, and certain other countries may also be eligible under specific conditions (refer to the official notification for details).

Educational Qualification: (As on 08.10.2024)

(a) Bachelor Degree in Engineering or

(b) Passed Sections A & B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India); or

(c) Bachelor Degree/diploma in Engineering from such foreign University/Institution/, or

(d) Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers (India); or

(e) Associate Membership Examination Parts II & III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or

(f) Graduate Membership Examination of the Institutions of Electronics & Radio Engineers, London held after November, 1959

Provided that a candidate for the post of Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engg Posts) and Indian Radio Regulatory Service Group ‘A’ may possess any of the above qualifications or the qualification mentioned below namely:-

For Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engg Posts) – M.Sc. degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication Electronics, Radio Engineering or Radio Physics as a special subject.

For Indian Radio Regulatory Service Group ‘A’- M.Sc. degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication Electronics, Radio Engineering or Radio Physics as a subject or Master’s Degree in
Science with Physics and Radio Communication or Telecommunication or Electronics as a special subject.

Age Limit (As on 01.01.2024) : A candidate for this examination must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on the 1st January, 2025 i.e., he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1995 and not later than 1 st January, 2004.

Relaxation of Upper age limit:

For SC/ ST Candidates: 5 years
For OBC Candidates: 3 years
For PwBD (Gen/ EWS) Candidates: 10 years
For PwBD (SC/ ST) Candidates: 15 years
For PwBD (OBC) Candidates: 13 years
For Ex-Servicemen Candidates: As per Govt. Policy

Salary and Pay Scale: Selected candidates will be appointed to prestigious engineering positions in various government departments, and the salary structure will be according to the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC). The approximate pay scale for an Engineering Services officer is:

  • Basic Pay: ₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500
  • Grade Pay: Level-10
  • Other Allowances: Apart from the basic pay, candidates will also receive several allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Transport Allowance (TA), which will vary based on their place of posting.

Selection Process: The selection process for the UPSC Engineering Services Examination 2025 consists of the following stages:

Stage-I: Engineering Services (Prelims) Examination (Objective Type Papers)

Stage-II: Engineering Services (Mains) Examination (Conventional Type Papers) and

Stage-III : Personality Test
