How did the world react?

In December 2022, Ukraine President called on the leaders of G7 countries to back his global peace summit that would focus on a peace plan “as a whole or some specific points in particular”.

This proposal was rejected by Russia, with Moscow reiterating that it would not give up any of the territory it had taken by force, which accounts for around a fifth of Ukraine’s territory.

While the West led by the US has provided military and financial support for Ukraine, it was cautious about Zelenskiy’s peace plan and his proposed peace summit. The G7 leaders have committed to bringing peace to Ukraine in lines with the rights provided by the UN Charter.
